Adventure Theater

Adventure Theater is the name for the motion simulator theater in the USA section of the park. Since its opening in 1995, it has featured a number of different short movies, including 3D and "4D" movies. Below is an incomplete listing of the various shorts that have been shown at the ride.

Occasionally, the movie shown in the theater will temporarily change for seasonal events, such as showing Elvira's Superstition for Fright Fest and Kid Coaster for Holiday in the Park.

As of the 2011 season, Adventure Theater has been closed and hasn't been listed on park maps since, making it appear unlikely that it will reopen this season. Extensive mechanical and HVAC work is needed for the ride to return to a fully-operational condition and the park has decided not to pursue such costs at this time.

Robots of Mars (2010)

The current film shown in Adventure Theater, Robots of Mars takes riders on a computer-animated comical journey to help a cast of characters defeat the evil Mars "supervisor" and of course, save the universe.

Fly Me to the Moon (2008-2009)

Coinciding with the release of the film by the same name, Fly Me to the Moon was shown in Adventure Theater starting with the 2008 season. The 3D movie dealt with flies dreaming of going to the moon, catching a ride on an Apollo spaceship.

SpongeBob Squarepants (2004-2007)

The SpongeBob Squarepants movie shown at Adventure Theater introduced the concept of "4D," not only including 3D visuals but adding the fourth dimension of sensory effects, including fans and water splashes.

Space Shuttle America (2003)

The Space Shuttle America movie, shown briefly in 2003, had a storyline of hitching a ride on a space shuttle and visiting the fictional Armstrong City, a colony established on the moon.

Escape from Dino Island (1999-2002)

The second movie Adventure Theater featured was "Escape from Dino Island." The 3D movie had the general plot of needing to escape an island inhabited by dinosaurs. Riders wore reusable polarized 3D glasses.

The Right Stuff: Mach 1 Adventure (1995-1998, 2003)

The first movie to be shown in Adventure Theater, The Right Stuff: Mach 1 Adventure was loosely based on the film by the same name regarding test pilots training to be astronauts and breaking the sound barrier. In the ride's movie, test pilots engaged in a series of training maneuvers before technical issues almost sent one jet into a mountain.

The queue line was heavily themed with aeronautical and aviation memorabilia, and the park had a full-sized F-104 Starfighter jet parked outside the theater (which was later sent to an aviation museum when the ride's movie and theme was changed). The building still resembles a large airplane hangar.

I enjoyed this ride when it was showing Spongebob 4D. Fly Me To The Moon was terrible. A good way to beat the Summer heat!
